Workshop I: Student Academic Integrity: As students feel more pressure to do well in courses, cases of academic dishonesty are on the rise. Our panel will address procedures and processes for reporting cases; how faculty are informed of the process and consistency of reporting; incidences of academic integrity violations as well as due process and procedures. Workshop II: Career Trends and Career Center Resources: Brief overview of what services we provide at the Career Center; hot majors & employment trends; some key tips for students to prepare themselves to be employable and some specific resources and strategies we recommend for the job search process. Workshop III: EAP and Advising our International Students: The first half of the workshop will cover working with international students; basic immigration information; VISA impacts; and issues and concerns of our international students. Part two will provide advisers with an "EAP 101" debriefing which will cover the student's EAP journey, from choosing a program, applying and getting accepted, to dealing with post-departure issues. 1:30 2:30 Workshop IV: Addressing Student Behavioral Issues: As student enrollment goes up, mental health and behavioral problems increase. The burden is placed on faculty and staff to work with students to provide support and encourage appropriate behavior. This workshop will discuss campus procedures, necessary referrals; how this information is communicated to advisers; and what issues are addressed by CPS, college residential life and the Campus Judicial Office. Workshop V: Advising Services Updates: In this workshop advisers will learn about the referral process and services offered by these units. How to identify and refer students, services the office provides. A “must” for new advisers and a good refresher for “seasoned” advisers. Workshop VI: Student Panel: A New Perspective: Hear from the adviser’s key constituents, students! What do students really think about UCSC, advising on campus, and the best advice they’ve received from you. Come hear from a panel of students and participate in a discussion that could help you rethink your advising strategies.
