Academic Advisement Report

The Academic Advisement Report provides Degree Auditing information to students and advisors. In addition to displaying university, general education, major, minor, and college requirements for a student, the Academic Advisement Report allows students to search for classes that satisfy requirements and add those classes to their enrollment shopping cart or planner directly from the advisement report. Graduation certification and requirement satisfaction must be officially approved by the appropriate certifying agency. An Academic Advisement Report is an unofficial report and shall not, in any case, constitute approval of satisfaction or revision of requirements. Click here for a .pdf download of this page. Clicking on an image in this page will bring the figure full-size in another browser window.

Understanding the Academic Advisement Report
The Academic Advisement Report may be separated into three sections: University and General Education Requirements, Department Requirements and College Requirements.

At the end of each requirement is a parenthetical notation of the Requirement Group (RG), requirement (R), and requirement line number (L) used in the degree audit report. Notations are for recording purposes only; students may disregard these notations.

University and General Education Requirements
To graduate from the University of California, students must satisfy the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (formerly Subject A Requirement), American History and Institutions Requirement and earn a UC system-wide GPA of 2.0 or greater.

To graduate from UCSC, students must also satisfy the senior residency requirement, the 180-credit requirement, UCSC General Education requirements and any college and major requirements. Students admitted fall 2001 and later must also have a UCSC GPA above 2.0 and no more than 25% of all coursework earned with a Pass (P) grade.

The University of California Grade Point Average (UC GPA), percentage of courses taken for P/NP grading and senior residency requirements are not audited in the academic advisement report.

University Requirements

American History and Institutions
UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (Subject A)
180-Credit Requirement

Credits applied to the degree and the UC GPA are not audited in the Academic Advisement Report and appear in the Statistics page of the Student Advising Summary.

If you have questions about university or general education requirements, please contact your college.

For more information on graduation requirements, please consult “The UCSC General Catalog” (http://reg.ucsc.edu/catalog) and “The Navigator” (http://reg.ucsc.edu/navigator).

General Education Requirements
Introduction to Disciplines (IH, IN, IS)

Two introductory courses must be passed with a C/P or better from two different areas within the three disciplines: Humanities and Arts, Natural Sciences and Engineering and Social Sciences.

Tip 1: All subjects in the Arts Division (Art, Film and Digital Media, History of Art and Visual Culture, Music and Theater Arts) are considered one area. All Literature courses are considered one area in Literature. All Language courses are considered one area.

Topical Courses (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7)
One lower-division topical course from each of the three disciplines must be passed (with a C/P or better). These courses are numbered 80 and carry a General Education Code of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7. Topical courses coded as 5, 6, 7 are inter-disciplinary and may satisfy either discipline.

Tip 2: Due to the complexities of inter-disciplinary Topical requirements (5, 6, 7) and the order in which a student enrolls in courses, manual direction of a Topical course to the requirement may be required to indicate full satisfaction. Please contact your college.

Topicals waived by Transfer Credit
Transfer students are granted waivers of Topical (0-3) courses based on the amount of transfer credit awarded at admission. While the waivers appear in the TH and TN requirements, transfer waivers may be applied to any academic area.

One lower-division course from each of the following must be passed (with a C/P or better):
Composition (C1, C2)

If your major plan has a degree audit, requirements are listed. If the plan is still in development, please consult the catalog http://reg.ucsc.edu/catalog. To obtain a degree audit or plan declaration, contact the department’s undergraduate advising office.

Transfer Credit and the Degree Progress Report
At present, transfer credit is not fully articulated to check for requirement satisfaction. To have transfer work directed to UCSC requirements, please contact your department for requirement satisfaction.

If you have questions about your major(s) or minor requirements, please contact your department’s advising staff.
