Academic Advising at UCSC

Exploring Academic Programs at UCSC

As you begin to research the academic programs and advising resources available at UC Santa Cruz, you will find that there are many ways to seek information and access academic advising services.

The goal of campus advising is to provide students the necessary tools to pursue their interests and to monitor and manage their graduation requirements.  The faculty and staff in the academic programs and advisers in the colleges assist students in understanding the full range of academic programs and resources available on campus, in selecting appropriate courses and in choosing a major area of study.

First Steps

Information on the academic programs is available from the faculty who teach in the programs and departmental advisors.  In your college you will complete First Year Advising (FYA) and have access to academic advising throughout your UCSC career.  Information is also available from campus publications and online resources.

Exploring Campus Online Resources

Campus publications and online resources on academic programs and campus advising services are easily accessible.

What to Expect in College

Students developing, early on, an understanding of university level requirements and expectations, often guide academic success in college.  As you make the transition from high school, another college or university to UC Santa Cruz it is essential to explore course and faculty expectations, organizational and time management techniques, library resources, and use of course materials.
