Getting Started in Legal Studies: 2023-2024 Entering Transfers

Students are admitted to UC Santa Cruz with a "proposed major" in most cases, and later petition to officially declare the major. Admission does not guarantee acceptance into a particular major, although transfer students' records are screened for preparation for many majors at the time of admission. Junior transfer students must be formally declared by the deadline in their second quarter of enrollment.

Students majoring in legal studies will benefit from any classes that help to build writing, research, and analytical skills since these skills are important to success in the major. |

Other Information: |
Students are allowed to substitute one philosophy course in logic or ethics taken elsewhere to satisfy the lower division philosophy requirement. This course must appear on the student's transfer credit list on the MyUCSC portal. The course should be the equivalent to Phil 7, 9, 22, 24 or 27 and most courses can be verified through assist.org. Instructions for declaring the major are on our website. |
