Addressing enrollment holds
An enrollment hold (sometimes called a service indicator) blocks you from adding, swapping, or dropping classes in MyUCSC until the underlying issue is resolved. Holds can pop up for academic, financial, health-related, or administrative reasons—and they almost always surface right when you’re trying to enroll. The key is to check for holds early and clear them well before your enrollment appointment opens.
To identify what kind of hold you have:
- Go to MyUCSC and click on “Holds” and then “Details”

- Click on the hold item, and it will tell you:
- Which office placed the hold
- How you can remove it
- Who to contact if you have questions

Why you should act now
- Holds are not lifted instantly. Some require paperwork, payments, or advisor meetings that can take days—or even weeks— to process.
- Popular courses fill quickly. If a hold delays your enrollment window, preferred sections or labs may be gone.
- Multiple offices may be involved. Each hold is managed by a specific campus unit; you’ll need to work with that office to remove it.
Tip: Set a calendar reminder to review your MyUCSC “Holds & Alerts” well before Priority Enrollment every quarter.
