Preparing for graduation
With most of your coursework behind you, only a handful of tasks remain to finalize your UCSC degree. The timeline below shows when to run a Degree Progress Report, file your Application for Graduation, and reserve a Commencement spot if you plan to participate. Follow these steps and keep an eye on your UCSC email for any follow-ups, and you’ll wrap up your degree without surprises.
Your graduation checklist
When | What to do | Where / How |
---|---|---|
3 quarters before | Run a Degree Progress Report (DPR) and clear any missing requirements. | MyUCSC → Student Center → Degree Progress Report |
2 quarters before | Meet with college and major advisors for a graduation check. | Schedule appointments in Slug Success |
1 quarter before | File the Application for Graduation before the Registrar’s deadline (late fee if you miss it). | MyUCSC → Graduation |
Same quarter | Order cap & gown, RSVP for Commencement (optional). | UCSC’s Commencement Webpage |
After finals | Watch your UCSC email—degree posting takes up to six weeks. | MyUCSC → Student Advising Summary |
Need proof before the diploma? Request a Certificate of Completion from the Registrar if an employer or grad school needs verification sooner.
Staying on track
- Resolve holds early. Financial Aid, Library, or Conduct holds can delay posting your degree.
- Double majors/minors: Make sure both advising programs sign off on your final plan.
- Finishing after the unit cap or returning from leave? See Special Circumstances & Appeals for petitions and deadlines.
