Getting started in Mathematics Theory and Computation B.S.: Fall 2024 Entering Frosh
🔙
Students are admitted to UCSC with a "proposed major" in most cases, and later petition to officially declare the major. Admission to UCSC does not guarantee acceptance into a particular major. Students must be declared in a major by the end of the second year (or equivalent), so learning about and preparing for a major is a primary goal for first-year students.
Importance of an early start: |
This is a moderately course-intensive and/or sequential program, and students who intend to pursue this major should begin taking classes for the major in their first or second year at UCSC. |

Other Information: |
Students who intend to pursue the Mathematics majors should not take the Math 11A/B calculus series. The Math 19A/B or Math 20A/B series is required. This is one of three offerings within the Mathematics Department. The Mathematics Bachelor’s of Science, the Mathematics Theory and Computation Bachelor’s of Science, the Mathematics Education Bachelor’s of Arts and the Mathematics Bachelor’s of Arts are all options a student may choose when declaring. A combined major with Economics is also available. Students interested in this possibility should contact the advisor. |
