Getting Started in Film & Digital Media: Fall 2024 Transfers

Students are admitted to UC Santa Cruz with a "proposed major" in most cases, and later petition to officially declare the major. Admission does not guarantee acceptance into a particular major, although transfer students' records are screened for preparation for many majors at the time of admission. Junior transfer students must be formally declared by the deadline in their second quarter of enrollment.

Qualification requirements and/or prerequisites for the major: |
Review Major Qualification Requirements in the General Catalog. Transfer students can declare the FDM major after they pass FILM 20A and FILM 20B in the fall quarter with grades of C or better. |

Students may submit an unofficial copy of their transcript along with the syllabi for any film or digital media courses previously taken. These will be reviewed for possible substitution toward the major requirements. There is a limit of two substitutions accepted toward the major requirements. |

FILM 20A: Introduction to Film Studies and FILM 20B: Introduction to Television Studies. If interested, one upper-division critical studies FILM course as well. |

Although not required for the major, students in this major might benefit from: |
Many Film & Digital Media students find courses in Art, Anthropology, History of Art & Visual Culture, Latin American and Latino Studies, Music, and Theater Arts complementary to the Film & Digital Media curriculum. Courses in other disciplines pre-approved as substitutions toward the FDM major will be suggested on a quarterly basis. |
