Getting started in Latin American and Latino Studies / Politics Combined: 2023-2024 Entering Frosh
🔙
Students are admitted to UCSC with a "proposed major" in most cases, and later petition to officially declare the major. Admission to UCSC does not guarantee acceptance into a particular major. Students must be declared in a major by the end of the second year (or equivalent), so learning about and preparing for a major is a primary goal for first-year students.
Importance of an early start: |
Students interested in the combined major in LALS and politics are encouraged to enroll in LALS 1 and one lower-division politics course, chosen from POLI courses numbered 1-79, at their earliest opportunity. |
Qualification requirements and/or prerequisites for the major: |
Review Major Qualification Requirements in the General Catalog. |
Frosh who intend to pursue this major should do the following things prior to the beginning of fall term... |
|
...and should take these courses their first term: |
LALS 1 and/or one POLI course numbered 1-79. If students do not enroll in either of these courses in the first term, it is recommended to take them during the first year. |
Special enrollment procedures: |
Enroll in classes during your online enrollment appointment time. |
Sample Academic Plan: |
Review the Sample Academic Plan in the General Catalog. |
Other Information: |
Students are encouraged to consider study away possibilities, including UCDC and Study Abroad. It is also helpful to start thinking about Undergraduate Research early in the college career. |
