Getting Started in Creative Technologies B.A.: Fall 2024 Transfers

🔙

Students are admitted to UC Santa Cruz with a "proposed major" in most cases, and later petition to officially declare the major. Admission does not guarantee acceptance into a particular major, although transfer students' records are screened for preparation for many majors at the time of admission. Junior transfer students must be formally declared by the deadline in their second quarter of enrollment.

Qualification requirements and/or prerequisites for the major:

Review Major Qualification Requirements in the General Catalog.

Transfer students should complete the required coursework and declare the major by the end of their second quarter.

Two courses are required for qualification:

  • One introductory arts course in theory or history
  • One practice-based, “maker”/production-oriented arts course

It is possible transfer students have taken one or both of these courses at a prior institution. Please reach out to the CT advisor at creative@ucsc.edu to determine this.

In addition, a personal statement is required.

Prospective majors’ personal statements should address three issues:

  • (~1 paragraph) Describe relevant courses you have taken that you believe support your goals in the Creative Technologies major. You may wish to consult our list of “Recommended Courses
  • (~2 paragraphs) Describe a creative project that you are proud of, completed either in a course or in your own personal practice as an artist. Did you intend it for a specific audience, and if so, how did that intention shape the work? What did you hope audiences would gain from it? You may opt to describe a series of smaller projects, if you wish.
  • (~1 paragraph) What are your aims in Creative Technologies? What kind of creative arts or design practices do you envision working on after you have completed your degree?

When complete, upload personal statements.

Transfer students who intend to pursue this major should do the following prior to the beginning of their first term…

Complete parts 1 & 2 of the Slug Orientation Course to receive your enrollment appointment date.

...and should take these courses their first term:

  • CT 11: Digital Media Perspectives

(Sophomore transfers will be permitted enrollment in CT 1A/1B, subject to availability; they will wait to enroll in CT 10 and CT 11 until their junior year.)

If unable to enroll in the courses listed above:

Students who are accepted as junior transfers for CT will have spaces reserved in the above courses.

Special enrollment procedures:

For Academic Year 2024-25, the major advisor will be providing transfer students with permission numbers to enroll in CT courses. The advisor will be meeting with transfer students individually during Advising Week to go over individualized academic plans and to provide these numbers. Transfer students are guaranteed space in their required CT courses.

Enroll in classes during the enrollment appointment date(s) listed in your MyUCSC portal.

Although not required for the major, students in this major might benefit from:
