Getting Started in Feminist Studies: Fall 2024 Transfers

🔙

Students are admitted to UC Santa Cruz with a "proposed major" in most cases, and later petition to officially declare the major. Admission does not guarantee acceptance into a particular major, although transfer students' records are screened for preparation for many majors at the time of admission. Junior transfer students must be formally declared by the deadline in their second quarter of enrollment.

Qualification requirements and/or prerequisites for the major:

The feminist studies major does not have qualification requirements or prerequisites for declaring the major, and does not currently limit the number of students it will accept into the program.

Transfer students who intend to pursue this major should do the following prior to the beginning of their first term…

  • Students who have taken upper-division college transferable classes that may apply to the requirements of this major should submit an unofficial transcript to the department prior to July 1, in addition to the official transcript that is required by the UCSC Admissions Office.
  • Students should review the major requirements on theFeminist Studies website and should carefully review the Feminist Studies website overall. A solid understanding of the requirements provides students with an invaluable head start to their college career and to this interdisciplinary major.

...and should take these courses their first term:

  • FMST 1: Feminist Studies: An Introduction*
  • A lower-division (10-99 course) Feminist Studies course.
  • An upper-division (102-189) Feminist Studies course or an approved upper-division (102-189) elective from another department - please refer to the FMST Tentative Curriculum list.

If unable to enroll in the courses listed above:

Enroll on the waitlist (use the swap function if enrolled in an alternate class) as soon as possible. Plan to attend the first day of instruction for the course. The student may email the instructor of the course directly to request a permission number to enroll. For FMST 105 enrollment, please contact Advisor Anne Eickelberg (contact info below).

Special enrollment procedures:

Enroll in classes during your online enrollment appointment time.

Although not required for the major, students in this major might benefit from:

Approved courses offered from outside the Feminist Studies Department by affiliated faculty will be counted toward feminist studies major requirements. Students may take courses in other disciplines that will assist in further developing their area of interest. See the course list.

Other Information:

*If you have completed an Introduction to Women’s, Gender, or Feminist Studies course at your community college, please check assist.org to find out if it articulates with FMST 01. If the course you have taken does not articulate with FMST 01, you should still contact the FMST advisor immediately and provide them with a syllabus and unofficial transcript so the course can be reviewed as a potential substitute for FMST 01 or as a substitute for the lower-division course requirement.

You can declare the Feminist Studies major any time during your first quarter at UCSC, but no later than the deadline in your second quarter (see academic calendar).
