Getting Started in Global and Community Health B.A.: Fall 2024 Transfers

🔙

Students are admitted to UC Santa Cruz with a "proposed major" in most cases, and later petition to officially declare the major. Admission does not guarantee acceptance into a particular major, although transfer students' records are screened for preparation for many majors at the time of admission. Junior transfer students must be formally declared by the deadline in their second quarter of enrollment.

Qualification requirements and/or prerequisites for the major:

Review transfer information and policy, getting started, and major qualification requirement sections in the General Catalog.

Transfer students who intend to pursue this major should do the following prior to the beginning of their first term…

  • Review the Language Placement information and complete the appropriate Language Placement test or action. It is a requirement for students to complete (or test-out of) a sequential 3 course series of foreign language classes – through level 3 – in this major. Doing this in the first year as a transfer student is highly recommended. Note that many language level 1 classes are only offered in fall quarter.
  • Students should meet with the GCH BA Program Advisor to discuss their progress in the major and determine what are the major requirements they must complete by their Expected Graduation Term.

...and should take these courses their first term:

  • GCH 1: Foundations for Global and Community Health
  • Appropriate foreign language course, i.e. FREN 1. Review your placement results for accurate enrollment.

If unable to enroll in the courses listed above:

Please notify our GCH BA advisor at the contact listed below.

Special enrollment procedures:

Enroll online during your enrollment appointment.

Although not required for the major, students in this major might benefit from:

Our major offers an extremely varied set of electives. Students will benefit if they deliberately seek out an interdisciplinary mix of courses that enable them to develop insights and skills taught across the social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, engineering and arts.

Other Information:

Both online health-related courses (through UC Online) and study abroad focused on Global and Public Health (through UCEAP) can also count towards the major.
